Day 355 – Yeessssss!! At Lassssssst … It’s Taken 3 Years!!!!

Forgive me for being soooooooooooo very pleased about this news!!  :-)

We have waited for about three years for this to happen:

The photograph of this plant might not look much, but if you look closely you will see a couple of buds!!  We are delighted.  This is a Red Hot Poker plant, a plant we’ve always wanted in our garden.

No matter how many times we have tried to grow one during the last 12 years or so, they have never come to anything.

This plant did grow though, and for about three years it has just been leaves.  Now, there are these buds.  There are about seven or eight buds in all so it looks like at long last, this year will see some Red Hot Pokers in our garden.

It will be a shame that when they finally flower, I won’t be doing Project 365 at the time, but I will take some photos of it anyway, just in case it only flowers the once!!

Day 354 – Flu Jab

Every year my 101 year old Auntie Lucy always has a Flu Jab to keep it well away from her!!

Since she has come to stay with us we arranged for her to have her annual Flu Jab at our doctor’s surgery.

I took this photograph through the car window as Paul escorted Auntie Lucy inside, where she has never been before.

It took only about three or four minutes and then Paul and Auntie were back out again!!  I am amazed because whenever I go to the surgery I always have to wait at least half an hour or so before I get seen by anyone.

Day 353 – Why Is It So Hot?

It seemed very very hot in our kitchen on the day I took the photo for this post.  It was hotter than we normally have with our radiators on.  We were thinking that perhaps our new window was at last keeping warmth in rather than always being a bit cold because the old window was about to fall out at any time.

By lunchtime the heat in the kitchen was much tooooooo hot and so I thought I ought to turn the radiators down.  I was surprised to find the heating wasn’t on – we have it come on and off at different times in the day and evenings.

Sooooooooooooooo, what was causing the room to get hotter and hotter?  Then I found what it was:

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2012

This is a little radiator that always sat under the old window and kept on at a low heat to help keep the walls dry because the window was always streaming in condensation and the walls around it were always dampish.  Which also explains why it is looking a little rusty!!

Since having the new window we haven’t really needed this little radiator but have kept it on to hopefully completely dry the walls out before the replastering is done.

Somebody (and it wasn’t me!) has moved the seat from a scooter I use to get about outside and it looks like the seat handle has caught the radiator and pulled off the side of it!!

I unplugged the radiator as I felt that this might be a fire risk as it was just getting hotter and hotter in the room.  I didn’t like it that all the wires were on show either, especially if our doggie Pippin came wandering in and maybe sniffed at the radiator!

So now the little radiator will probably be retired from doing it’s little job and end up in scrapland!!

Day 352 – Shiny!

I have no idea why this caught my eye but assume it was because it was looking all shiny and sort of standing out more so than the other things near it, so I just grabbed the camera (which is almost glued to me now since I started Project 365) and took this photograph.

I know it’s only a plain green plant of some sort, but it stood out from the duller green ivy around it and seemed to be very shiny from the sunlight.  I just thought it looked nice and fresh!!  :-)

Day 351 – Redwing

I was gazing out into our garden as there was a lot of activity going on amongst the many different types of birds who come by to eat some of our pet duck Demelza’s grain and the bread we throw out for her.

They were all having a very busy session to eat loads before they went off to bed for that night.

At the end of the garden I noticed a Thrush and was so pleased to see it because we really don’t see Thrushes much at all these days, so took some photos of it.

It wasn’t until I loaded the photo onto the computer that I realised that it wasn’t a Thrush at all, it was something completely different and a visitor I have not seen in our garden before!!

As you look at this photograph you will see there are another two Redwings behind the main one, although they sort of blend into the background more!!

I took quite a lot of photos of the bird, trying to get a good photograph of what I thought was a Thrush and again it wasn’t until I had the photos on the computer that I realised there were actually six or seven of what I now knew were Redwings.

I’m very pleased as these birds haven’t come here before, so hopefully they will come again and just maybe I might be able to get a better photo of them.

Day 350 – Cornish Heritage

When I saw this as we travelled along in the car I realised that I actually hadn’t taken a photograph of any (or maybe only one or two) of these and so I thought it was about time I added one to this photo journal.

These old engine houses of Tin Mines are dotted about around Cornwall.  Sadly the Tin Mine industry is finished here but these buildings always look so interesting and wherever they are, there was always a lot of activity going on with the mining.

Paul worked in the Tin Mines for over 20 years, as did many of his ancestors.  As someone who loves history and genealogy, seeing these engine houses for me is always of great interest.

(It’s a shame the telegraph wire somewhat cuts across this pic)!!

Day 349 – Brolly Weather

Here we are out and about on our travels again and it’s not such a nice day!  ;-)

This is another pic taken from inside the car, but I thought it had rather a nice effect.  At least trying to take a photograph of the awful weather took my mind off of just how awful it really was and did we really want to go out in that???

Day 348 – I’m Watching You Watching Me!!

We were out and about on our travels again and Paul had parked us in the car park of a small supermarket while he popped in to get some things.

While waiting in the car I noticed a van drive up and park next to us.  The driver got out and as I looked over I saw this little chap watching me.  I could see he was wondering what I was doing watching him!!  ;-)

As I pointed the camera at him you can see we had eye and camera lens contact!!  As he was in a van he was up higher than me.  I’d love to know what was going through his mind!!

(The pic was taken through our car window and the van window, so probably isn’t as good as it should be and shows some reflections of what was around us too).

I thought the little chap was interesting sat there in his high position waiting for his daddy to come back.  :-)

Day 347 – In The Crow’s Nest?

Ha ha, well not really as there isn’t an actual nest in this photograph!!  ;-)

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2012

But it looks like a crow on a mast – hence crow’s nest, lol!!  :-)     (And I think he is a Jackdaw rather than a Crow, but you get my gist)!!!  :-)

Day 346 – Eye Catching Clouds!

This was taken while we were out and about on our travels again.  I just thought these clouds were extremely eye-catching and really hoped that the photo I took of them would show just how amazing they were.

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2012

The clouds were so very dark, almost black and then the part that had the sun shining on them made them look like they were on fire!  It just looked so different and actually very beautiful!  I don’t think the camera has caught it as well as I would have liked, but you must admit, these clouds are certainly eye-catching!  (Well, they caught my eye).  :-)
