Day 363 – Mackerel Sky

I was wondering what photograph I should take today but on looking out the window and seeing how lovely and blue the sky was with this mackerel effect I knew I should take pics of this!  :-)

Since doing Project 365 I have become interested more in the clouds in the sky as sometimes they are just lovely to photograph and I’m pretty sure I haven’t yet taken a photo of a mackerel sky.  Now I have!!

The sky was the most beautiful blue today and the sun was shining when I took this but this afternoon has turned dull and bitterly cold.

You can see a little bit of our very large Rhododendron shrub reaching up to the sky.  It’s covered in buds and usually blooms in May so I probably will take a pic of that with it’s lovely mauve blossoms against a beautiful blue sky then, but sadly my Project 365 is over in a couple of days so it won’t be seen in this photo journal.

Shall I start another Project 365???   Ooooooh, I’ve got to have a loooooong think about that!!!   :-)

Day 349 – Brolly Weather

Here we are out and about on our travels again and it’s not such a nice day!  ;-)

This is another pic taken from inside the car, but I thought it had rather a nice effect.  At least trying to take a photograph of the awful weather took my mind off of just how awful it really was and did we really want to go out in that???

Day 341 – He’s Still Smiling!

He’s still smiling   …

buuuuuuuuuuuuuut …

Well, as I reported in my Day 314 post the wild wind had taken off his wheel and dumped it into our pet duck Demelza’s pond.  Paul retrieved it and fixed it back on so Froggie was all back to normal.  Until now …

Ooooooh poor Froggie!!  It wasn’t his wheel this time that was whipped off his post by the really wild wind, it was him!!

We found him all dumped and forlorn in Demelza’s pond, just where his wheel had previously been, so Froggie was retrieved but can’t be fixed back onto his post!!!

But, he’s still smiling even though he has also lost two of the petals on his flower, which we can’t find!!  Oh dear, this is such a shame as he has been such a cheery chap to have in the garden.

Day 338 – Colour On A Dull Day

Hopefully I am now on the last leg of uploading my backlog of daily photographs that I had taken but did not have the chance to add to this photo journal until lately.  I’m really hoping I can get this last lot up today and then go back to posting daily until  my Project 365 comes to an end at the end of this month.

When I took this photograph I wasn’t sure how it would turn out as it was a very dull day, but I must say I am rather pleased with how it looks!!  :-)

I quite like the way the dull colour of the background has blended away to make the red much more prominent.

Day 328 – Somewhere Over The Rainbow

We were out and about on our travels on a not very bright day and it was Christmas Eve.

As we were driving along we saw this.

I suppose many people like the idea of a white Christmas with masses of snow everywhere, but in our part of the world that is very rare.

Rainbows are a bit magical aren’t they, so it was good to see this one on Christmas Eve even if it was a bit of a dull day.

Day 324 – View From A Window

On this particular day the sun had been shining and apart from being cold and windy was a very nice day.

Now we had our new window we could look out and see things without trying to look at the garden through constant condensation on the window.

So, as I was looking through the window on this sunny day I thought how good this looked so took a photo!

The sky looked such a beautiful blue and together with the white fluffy cloud and green treetops that I could see out of the top of the new window, I felt it was too nice to miss.

I got an added bonus with a seagull flying into view just as I took the photograph and now we appreciate our new window so much because we can actually see out of it properly!  :-)

Day 321 – Hail

I had taken a photo of something else to use for this day’s post, but since we had quite a big hail shower I thought it would be interesting to take a photograph of it as it settled very quickly.

I had hoped the hail would look better in the photo than you can see.  I suppose there might well be a proper way to photograph this type of thing, but as I’ve never taken a photo of hail before this is a first for me!!  :-)

Day 316 – A Rainy Day

Following on from my Day 315 post where I mention that the day was all dreary and dull, look what we had the next day!!

It was very dark inside the house and outside so I had to use the flash to get a decent photograph but of course did not realise until I had this on the computer that the flash shows in the pic!!

If you look carefully through the rain on the window you can just make out one of the Doves that seem to live in our garden, on the bird table.  He didn’t seem to mind getting wet!!  :-)

Day 315 – Cheery Face

On this particular dreary and dull day we were out and about on our travels and found ourselves stuck in a queue at some traffic lights in town.

Everyone was milling about and as it was getting near to Christmas presumably a lot of the hustle and bustle and some miserable faces was to do with all the extra shopping most people do at this time.

As we were sat in the car in this queue I looked out the window and saw a cheery face that seemed to brighten everything else, so I took a photograph of it!!

Ha ha, yes, a Christmas decoration in the street, but he did look all cheery and smiley and just brightened what I was seeing around me as we were stuck in a queue,  :-)

Day 314 – Oh Dear!!!

I have taken lots of photos of greenery in our garden when the very wild windy weather has been blowing it about like crazy, just to try to illustrate exactly how strong the wind was, but never seemed to show it well.

On the day I took this photograph I discovered I have another way of showing just how wild the wind had been during the night before!!

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011/2012

What is that you might say!  Well a long time ago in this photo journal I wrote a post for Day 95 called A Bit Of Fun.  That post in May shows a new fun windmill type thing we placed in the garden, partly for our grandchildren but also to stop grandchildren and pets falling into one of our pet duck Demelza’s ponds.  It was a cheery looking Froggie and he had a big coloured wheel below him which spun furiously in the wind.

That’s the wheel now lying in one of Demelza’s ponds after extremely strong winds during the night whilst we were all sleeping!  It has since been retrieved and fitted back on to the Froggie, but it is a little more battered now!!
