Day 359 – Camouflage!

I am finding as I come towards the end of my Project 365 that I am enjoying taking photos of particular things like clouds, flowers and birds although sometimes I don’t think they are great photographs!!

Consequently there have been a fair few of each of those things in the 300 + posts I have done in this photo journal.

Here is another!!  :-)

This is, I think,  a female Chaffinch and she was just hopping about in this bare shrub so I took her photograph.

It wasn’t until I uploaded it to the computer and looked at it that I realised she is the same colour as the branches of this Lilac Tree (we call it a tree but it is a very big shrub), so she is well camouflaged!!  She’s just so cute.  :-)

Day 324 – View From A Window

On this particular day the sun had been shining and apart from being cold and windy was a very nice day.

Now we had our new window we could look out and see things without trying to look at the garden through constant condensation on the window.

So, as I was looking through the window on this sunny day I thought how good this looked so took a photo!

The sky looked such a beautiful blue and together with the white fluffy cloud and green treetops that I could see out of the top of the new window, I felt it was too nice to miss.

I got an added bonus with a seagull flying into view just as I took the photograph and now we appreciate our new window so much because we can actually see out of it properly!  :-)

Day 310 – A Solitary Apple

Following on from my two posts, Day 284 and Day 294, I had to take this photo as it was the last remaining apple on our fruit tree.  It had been hanging on there a very long time and much later than they normally do if not picked or fallen.  It was now December and I really don’t remember having apples that late on our tree before, so of course I had to record it as it has happened whilst I am doing Project 365.  :-)

It wasn’t too long after this that I looked out one day and saw it had gone!!  Perhaps we should have picked and eaten it?  I wonder if it would have tasted ok having been on the tree so much longer than apples usually are?  Now we’ll never know!!

Day 294 – Only Two Left!

For my Day 284 post I had taken a photo of some shiny red apples that were still on the tree in November, which I thought was rather surprising.

Since then, one has dropped off!!  So I took this pic, especially as it was now well over a week later and there are still apples on the tree in November!

The tree is getting quite bare now and I’m sure we haven’t had apples on the tree this long into the year, so it is good to record this as it is more unusual.  :-)

Day 284 – Shiny Red Apples

On the day I took this photograph it had been raining and was very very windy (which seemed to be our “normal” weather now) and as it was now November it was surprising to see apples still on our fruit tree.

I just happened to think the combination of apples on the almost bare tree shining in the rain looked interesting so I took this photo.

Good enough to eat, mmmmm!  :-)

Day 263 – One Remaining Leaf

We have a beautiful Copper Beech tree in the garden, the colour is so lovely against all the rest of the trees and shrubs of various shades of green.

It’s always a shame when winter time is on it’s way so the Copper Beech tree loses all it’s leaves and looks sorry for itself until Spring.

I happened to notice that for two or three days only one leaf was hanging on so before it finally dropped off, I took a photo of it!!

I took the photo at the right time because by the day after I took this pic, the leaf had dropped off!!

Day 257 – Lots of Doves

For many years we have always had a pair of Doves visit our garden every day.  I’m not sure they would be the same pair, but it was always only two Doves each year.

During 2011 we seemed to get many more Doves visiting at any time and there was a crowd of them in the tree on the day I took this photograph.

Unfortunately, I could not get a better view that would show all the Doves sitting in the tree, but here you can see a few of them.

I think there were about ten Doves in the tree when I took the photo, but they were spread about higher and lower so I just could not really get them all in.

Day 251 – Why Did I Take This?

I have to ask the question as to why did I take this photograph because no matter how many times I have looked at it now, I just don’t remember the reason for it!!

Perhaps for the last lot of photos I take for Project 365 I should jot down the whys and wherefors, just in case I forget.  ;-)

Anyway, I shall add this one to the photo journal as it was taken for Project 365 with the reason for it as a mystery and invite those interested to leave comments (polite ones please) as to what you think I was trying to capture in this photograph.

When I took this photo, both Paul and Auntie Lucy were in hospital and my poor Mum had had a bad fall, so although I took the pic for a reason, perhaps my mind was on these other things so didn’t register properly why I took it!!

It will be interesting to see what you think it is although I can’t offer a prize for the best suggestion!!  Let’s see what you think, just for fun.  :-)

Day 173 – Bottle Brush?

I wasn’t able to get back when I thought to add all the previous photos I had taken, so I am doing them today and the new photos I have taken over the last three days will probably be added tomorrow!  I’m really going to have to get back to posting each day – it seems to take so long to do a lot in one go!!!

The photograph for Day 173 was taken in my brother Alan’s garden.  He has this tree which I think is called Bottle Brush or Brush or something like that.  I think this is going to be another thing to take a cutting from for our garden.  The flowers are quite unusual, a beautiful colour, which I don’t think really shows at its best in the photo and it’s another plant that is just a little different.  (I like things that are a little different)!!  :-)

I think there are a few more buds to open up yet and it doesn’t seem to be too big a tree at the moment.    Those who follow my posts in this photo journal will know that I like to do closeups of certain things too.  So of course, I had to do a bit of a closeup of the flowers.

Although these have very spikey looking flowers, they are very soft and delicate.  I’m looking forward to having a cutting from this or maybe even some seeds!!  :-)

Day 125 – Little and Large!

I’ve been a bit busy the last few days, so although I have been taking photographs each day, this is the first chance to post them.

For the first of the pics I am posting today, we were out and about and noticed that a windmill/wind turbine thingy that always looked quite big and was always on it’s own whenever we drove by it, was on this particular day no longer alone – and it was no longer looking quite so big!!

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

As you can see from the photograph, the smaller one was already quite a big thing, when you look at it near the houses but now it has been joined by a much bigger object which completely looms over everything around!!  Hope they won’t be putting too many of those up – I would much rather see the trees than a huge object reaching high up to the sky!!
