Day 363 – Mackerel Sky

I was wondering what photograph I should take today but on looking out the window and seeing how lovely and blue the sky was with this mackerel effect I knew I should take pics of this!  :-)

Since doing Project 365 I have become interested more in the clouds in the sky as sometimes they are just lovely to photograph and I’m pretty sure I haven’t yet taken a photo of a mackerel sky.  Now I have!!

The sky was the most beautiful blue today and the sun was shining when I took this but this afternoon has turned dull and bitterly cold.

You can see a little bit of our very large Rhododendron shrub reaching up to the sky.  It’s covered in buds and usually blooms in May so I probably will take a pic of that with it’s lovely mauve blossoms against a beautiful blue sky then, but sadly my Project 365 is over in a couple of days so it won’t be seen in this photo journal.

Shall I start another Project 365???   Ooooooh, I’ve got to have a loooooong think about that!!!   :-)

Day 346 – Eye Catching Clouds!

This was taken while we were out and about on our travels again.  I just thought these clouds were extremely eye-catching and really hoped that the photo I took of them would show just how amazing they were.

The clouds were so very dark, almost black and then the part that had the sun shining on them made them look like they were on fire!  It just looked so different and actually very beautiful!  I don’t think the camera has caught it as well as I would have liked, but you must admit, these clouds are certainly eye-catching!  (Well, they caught my eye).  :-)

Day 335 – New Year’s Eve

I don’t think this is a very thrilling photo for New Year’s Eve but I decided that I wanted to take a photograph of something on the last day of the year and then take a photograph of the same thing on the first day of the New Year.

As we weren’t really going out anywhere special to see the New Year in, I took a photo just looking outside our front door in the evening, a few hours before midnight.

It doesn’t look very thrilling does it?  I was hoping someone might let off an early firework and that would look pretty in the sky!!  ;-)

Day 328 – Somewhere Over The Rainbow

We were out and about on our travels on a not very bright day and it was Christmas Eve.

As we were driving along we saw this.

I suppose many people like the idea of a white Christmas with masses of snow everywhere, but in our part of the world that is very rare.

Rainbows are a bit magical aren’t they, so it was good to see this one on Christmas Eve even if it was a bit of a dull day.

Day 324 – View From A Window

On this particular day the sun had been shining and apart from being cold and windy was a very nice day.

Now we had our new window we could look out and see things without trying to look at the garden through constant condensation on the window.

So, as I was looking through the window on this sunny day I thought how good this looked so took a photo!

The sky looked such a beautiful blue and together with the white fluffy cloud and green treetops that I could see out of the top of the new window, I felt it was too nice to miss.

I got an added bonus with a seagull flying into view just as I took the photograph and now we appreciate our new window so much because we can actually see out of it properly!  :-)

Day 270 – Fluffy Clouds

I took this photograph while we were out and about on our travels, just because I thought the clouds looked all fluffy and comfy!!

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011/2012

They look like you could just snuggle up in them and have a wonderful view!!

Years ago I would have been able to tell you what sort of clouds they are such as nimbus etc., except that these days I have forgotten which type is which so that would explain I suppose why I have titled this photograph as “Fluffy Clouds” !!! :-)

Day 240 – Assignment: Look Upwards

I’m still trying to upload all the daily photographs I have taken but didn’t have time to add to this photo journal until the last few days, so here goes with another lot!

When I took this day’s photo, it was for one of the assignments at The Daily Shoot and on this particular day we were asked to take a photograph looking upwards!!  I don’t think this is a particularly interesting photo and it was taken on a dull-ish day too.

See what you think!  :-)

Ha ha!  Well, I did say it wasn’t interesting!  Really not one of my best photos.  I’ll have to make sure I’m in a more interesting place when I get that assignment again.

Day 180 – Great Day For Flying!

The day after we went to Falmouth (see the Day 179 post), the sky was looking so blue and hardly any clouds in it.

A Seagull flew by and looked good against the beautiful sky so I took a pic of it.

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

I actually took several photos of this Seagull, but seemed to just get him as he flapped his wings so you didn’t get to see much of him!  I don’t think this is too bad a shot of him out having a lovely fly in the sky!!  ;-)

Day 124 – St. Mawes – Looking Lovely

Today we went over to St. Mawes to visit my Aunt.  It was an absolutely glorious, beautiful sunny day.  I think the summer is at last on its way!!

The view out the window was lovely, all the boats bobbing about on the sea.  It just looked so good I decided to take a photograph of it.

And yes, I did deliberately take the pic with the chimney pot in it because the Seagull was busy looking out at all he surveyed while I was looking out at it all as well and I thought it would be a good point of interest in the photo.  :-)

As the Seagull looked so good I decided to take a closeup pic of him, as long as he stayed there.

Even if I say so myself, I think he looks pretty good in this photo.  I think he knew I was taking his pic so stayed there for a while longer posing.    ;-)

Day 80 – Clouds

As we were driving along while out and about today, I noticed cloud formations that were in lines, long lines and thought how unusual this was.  I mentioned it to my man Paul but as he was driving he could not really see what I was talking about.

But, you can see that I have him well trained regarding my taking photos for this Project 365, because he told me there was a layby coming up and if he parked the car there, then I could take some photos of this unusual cloud formation!!  ;-)

This is the first of the photos I took.  I tried to get the view as far as the cloud “lines” went in the sky.

Original photograph taken by me today 19 April 2011 - copyright 2011

Paul said that maybe the lines were vapour trails from planes, but as the view as we drove along had a great expanse of sky to look at, there had not been any planes flying about anywhere in the sky during our car journey.  I had noticed these lines a fair way back at the start of our journey, so they had not changed, nor moved during our half an hour or more drive.

I tried to get part of the lines closer up.

Original photograph taken by me today 19 April 2011 - copyright 2011

In the above photo there appears to be three “lines” of cloud and I think the one in the middle has a very interesting almost regular pattern to it.

Here’s another photograph I took of the sky with these lines.

Original photograph taken by me today 19 April 2011 - copyright 2011

This photo shows the lines at the other end and here you can see there are four lines of cloud formation.

Original photograph taken by me today 19 April 2011 - copyright 2011

I found these lines quite fascinating, which is probably why I took so many photos of them!  :-)    But the interesting thing for me is that two to three hours earlier, when I was letting our doggie Pippin into our garden at home, I also saw a cloud formation of lines in the sky then!!  It’s almost as if this is the same clouds I saw but they haven’t changed or moved.

We have lived in this area for many years and do see planes flying about and we see also when they leave their vapour trails.  Those trails usually disappear fairly quickly, but they are also usually much thinner than the lines I saw in the sky today.  Again for those above our garden this morning, there were no planes flying about.  Even if we did not see any, we can hear them, but there was no plane sound today.

Last pic, another attempt at trying to get the complete length of them in the photo, so more of a distance shot this time.

Original photograph taken by me today 19 April 2011 - copyright 2011

What I did not notice before I looked at these pics, because I was too busy looking at the lines of cloud going across the sky, was that there is also a line of cloud going the other way!!

It’s normal to see all sorts of different cloud formations but these lines seemed so completely different to me.  The fact that they stayed there, and did not change, even just a little, or move just seems odd to me.  I would be interested to know what others think of this.  :-)
