Day 239 – Broken Again!!

Way, way back in this photo journal, I posted a photo showing an ornament that belonged to my then 100 year old Aunt. (Day 24 – What Are You Doing There?)  It is the type of ornament that sits on a shelf – a boy about to play a pipe – and he had been broken, his head coming away from his body.

Paul fixed it and we returned the ornament to my Aunt and then some time later she told us he had broken again!

This time, the poor chap’s body was broken in half at his waist and his head looked as though it might fall off again.

So, I just had to take a photo of him as he was being repaired.  Hopefully no more mishaps will come his way, he hasn’t got many more bits that can break!!!

Day 195 – Just Cute!

Well, this is another silly photo really.

I had been pottering in our Study, sitting at the computer when I noticed the two fluffy toys that sit on our old computer.  They have lived there a long time, and I suppose get moved about a bit when I grab one of my family history CDs that they sit on top of.

But on the day I took this pic, I just happened to think they looked very cute together and I have no idea how long they had been sitting like that!

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

Awwwwwww, so very cute don’t you think?  This was not set up in any way.  It’s just how they were when I noticed them.  The Tatty Teddy was given to me by a friend about two years ago and the duck we picked up on a shopping trip a looooooong time ago, just cos it was sweet.

When I was much much much younger than I am now, I always used to think that ornaments such as these came alive at night when everyone had gone to bed.  As the little chap/chapess weren’t in that position previously (I’m sure I would have noticed before this), then how did they suddenly go like that?   I know they are sitting on my genealogy CDs which I use at times, but I actually haven’t touched those for a while!   Hmmmmmm, maybe little inanimate cuties do come alive when we’re all in bed!!  ;-)

Day 117 – Horizontal Lines

For today’s photograph, I decided to go with whatever assignment was at The Daily Shoot  (I rather like some of these assignments although I’m not so sure my photos for them are that interesting or good though).

Today they said:  Make a photograph dominated by horizontal lines today.

Like for the assignment needing something yellow, I hunted about the house for horizontal lines.  These assignments aren’t as easy as you would think!!  We have horizontal lines inside the fridge and on a small heater, but I really don’t think they are that attractive or interesting.

After much hunting I decided to take a photograph of this:-

Well, I think these books are more interesting and more colourful than any horizontal lines in our fridge.  ;-)     We have had these books for many many years and as you can see by the title, they were to help us learn about computers.  They served their purpose many years ago and have lived on that shelf in that position for a very long time.  So, they are horizontal and because they are a series of books, they are like horizontal lines.  I hope they are ok for this assignment.

Just as an aside from this, the little fluffy bear on the top of them is sort of special!  My man Paul and I used to be managers of a club many many many years ago and after one of the Sunday lunches we used to do for members, this little fluffy bear was left behind by it’s young owner.  We put it on show for a very long time in the hopes that the young owner or his/her parents would claim it, but no-one came.  Aaaaaah!   So one day, I took him home with us.  He lived on my desk and was called Desk Teddy.  We have moved a couple of times since then and he always now sits somewhere quite prominently and surveys all around him.  And now he is in this photo!!  I think that’s a first for him.  :-)

Day 116 – Yellow

This is another of the daily assignments from The Daily Shoot.  For the day I took this photo they said:  Make a photograph dominated by the colour yellow today.

I just had to do this one because my favourite colour is yellow!!  :-)     So I wandered about the house looking for yellow things to take a pic of but surprisingly, considering yellow is my favourite colour, there was hardly anything that was yellow!

My eye caught a dusty corner where a couple of yellow things were sitting so I took a pic of them.

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

They are lapel badges that were given to us after we donated to the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity.  As they are yellow flowers and even their labels are yellow, they suit this assignment of being predominantly yellow in this pic!  Peeking out behind them is one of my many owl collection ornaments – I have said in a previous post that my owls are everywhere!  Shame there’s not so much yellow everywhere!!  ;-)

Day 112 – Made of Glass

Today, I decided to go with another of the assignments at The Daily Shoot for today’s photograph as we were just pottering about at home, so wasn’t too sure what I should take a photo of!

For today’s assignment the Daily Shoot says:  Make a photograph of something made of glass.

Well I suppose I could have taken a pic of a window pane, or a mirror but didn’t think they would look too interesting.  At the Daily Shoot website some of the examples for this assignment that people have uploaded show fences, a child’s face and various other things that really weren’t made of glass at all or even had any glass present in the photo. Perhaps I missed something but I couldn’t see the point of doing the assignment but not taking a photograph of what they suggested!!

Here’s my photograph of something made of glass.

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

I have mentioned elsewhere in this Photo Journal that I like owls and have quite a collection of ornamental owls all over the house.  This is one of them.  It is made of glass and is very heavy.

I put it on a black background to hopefully show it off a little better than with everything else around it where it normally stands.  Hopefully he looks ok?

Day 108 – Assignment – Radiating Lines

Since we are not out and about today I thought I would go with whatever assignment was given at The Daily Shoot again.

Their Assignment:  Make a photograph that features radiating lines today.

Some of the photos that people have added to that site today show things like inner wheel spokes, coloured wires, lines on the back of a shell, sun rays on an ornament, palm tree branches and various other things.

I hunted about the house to see what I could come up with, and then spotted this:

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

Well, yes it is a gift decoration – I had it nearby for a soon to be given birthday gift – but it does have lots of lines on it and they are radiating out from the centre, so I think it is a pretty good example of what The Daily Shoot wanted for the assignment today.  ;-)

Day 101 – Assignment: Illustrate Warmth

I thought I would start my first pic after Day 100 with an Assignment from The Daily Shoot again.  I did this yesterday but because of WordPress or internet problems could not upload any pics, so I am posting it today instead.

The assignment is:   “Illustrate warmth in a photograph today” (which was yesterday).  Other people add their photos to that website for the Assignment and many had pics of cups of hot drinks, pics of the sun, pics of people in hats and scarves and lots of pics of gas rings lit up, or electric cooker plates switched on and candles and candle flames.  I thought that I wanted to do something a little different from all the others, so here is my example of illustrating warmth in a photo!

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

I’m also being a bit clever now, to try to beat the WordPress gremlins problems that have been plaguing me for about two weeks.  I’m writing this paragraph straight after writing the above paragraph and hoping that the photo will go in between them.  The gremlins have been preventing me from adding text after the photo, so this is a little trick to fool them (I hope)!!  (It hasn’t helped that the Happiness Engineers wrote to me about this problem and rather insulted me and treated me as a complete idiot, even though I told them I have three blogs with them and have been adding many photos so many times, I do really know what to do, even if they think I don’t)!!!

OK, back to the Assignment for yesterday’s photograph.  As you will see I have taken a pic of a clock with wild animals, the sort you get from Africa, where it is more hot than not, hence “warmth”!!  So I hope that is a fairly good example to illustrate warmth in a photo – and it’s a little different from all the other pics for the same Assignment – I do like to be different sometimes.  :-)   Just as an interesting note: my man Paul collects clocks, all sorts of different types, shapes, whatever.  Which is why we have this one that has a wild animal theme to it.  The monkey is actually the pendulum of the clock and he swings from side to side non-stop!  I had great problems taking this photograph because he was swinging about so much, he looked blurred in each photo I tried to take.  This photo is the best as he does not look so blurred even if he is at one side and in the middle of swinging!!

Day 60: Assignment – Photo that features metal …

I decided to do another of the assignments from The Daily Shoot and for today they say:  “Make a photograph that features metal or a metallic surface today”.

Many of the photos uploaded there for today’s assignment were of window frames, fridges, computers, computer tables, metal furniture, metal screens and so on.  I thought it would be nice to take a photograph of something that looked a bit nicer than a fridge or window frame so hunted about the house for a more attractive model!  :-)

This is definitely more attractive, I think, than a fridge etc..

Original photograph taken by me today 30 March 2011 - copyright 2011

This ornament shows an 18th Century Frigate in Glass and Gold and is very precious to us.  I’m not sure if the gold is real gold or another metal coloured gold, but it does look very nice and suits the assignment for today and is nothing like a fridge!!   ;-)

Day 50: Circles

I think today is a bit special!  It’s my day 50 of this Project 365 so I feel that is a bit of a milestone, a nice round number.  I decided that for today’s photograph I would go with whatever was given as an assignment at The Daily Shoot.  This is what they suggested was done photographically today:  “Make a photograph that incorporates a circle”.

This is my photo incorporating circles!

Original photograph taken by me today 20 March 2011 - copyright 2011

The fat balls that the blue tit is trying to eat are the circles incorporated in this photograph.

Then I thought maybe I should go with a better circle or circles so this next pic is my extra attempt at incorporating a circle in a photograph.

Original photograph taken by me today 20 March 2011 - copyright 2011

The wheels on this ornamental bike look more circle-type I think  than the fat balls in the previous photo.  I’m going to have to move the bike now though as I noticed the kalanchoe flowers are starting to grow through the “spokes” on the wheels!!  :-)

If this assignment was for yesterday I could have used my SuperMoon pics instead!

Day 41: Unearthed Treasures!!

Today we unearthed another lot of “treasures” that had been packed away for quite a long time.  Even though they had been packed away they were a bit dusty and so I spent a while cleaning them up before we find better places to put them all.

As I was cleaning them I thought how they would be good for my photograph today as this was something I spent a lot of time doing today.  ;-)

Here’s the “treasure”:

Original photograph taken by me today 11 March 2011 - copyright 2011

Quite a variety of things!!  I have a collection of Victorian ornaments and in these unearthed items are two Victorian plates and two Victorian glass dishes.  No idea how they got separated from my other Victorian bits and pieces!  There’s also an ornament with snowdrops which was given to me by my dear Mum when I was a teenager, and I found some broken bits of it as well  :-(

There’s a mask that was given to me a number of years ago by my step-daughter Claire and her husband Steve from one of their holidays.  My dear Mum also gave me a bone china thimble that is decorated with roses and my name.  I’ve had that a few years now.

There is also a wicker-work owl.  He is one of my collection of owls which I began when I was about 12 or thirteen years old.  Got quite a lot of owls now.  ;-)    They are dotted about all over the house!!

I also found in these “treasures” a little china trinket pot with two birds on the lid.  I don’t think this was a gift, but I can’t remember where I got it from originally!

These probably can’t be seen too well in the photo but there are some precious gems in the small glass dish which we collected at a Scottish Gem Shop a looooong time ago.  We also have some Fools Gold (Iron Pyrite) which my man Paul got many years ago when he was working in the Tin Mines here in Cornwall.

In the bigger glass dish is a brooch that was my grandmother’s.  She lived to 101 years old but the brooch was one that she had a bit later in her life.  Also in the glass dish is a gold chain and a badge from the Cornwall Trust for Nature Conservation that I have had for about thirty or so years now.

There’s also a fabric heart-shaped trinket box, another gift from Claire, and a teddy bear pin cushion which was in a needlecraft gift from my friend Grace in Scotland.

Lastly there were a lot of  1p, 2p and 5p coins, and they total £6.75 and a half pence and there was also a button!  :-)

It was enjoyable going down memory lane with that lot!  Now all I have to do is find somewhere to put them all!!
