Day 291 – Ugh!!!

You can tell that I was very limited in what I could take photographs of while Paul was recovering from his operation and could not drive yet.

As usual I was wondering what I could take a photo of that would hopefully be interesting, hopefully be a bit different and wasn’t another pic of Pippin!!  ;-)

(I can’t promise there won’t be more pics of Pippin, so be prepared that you will see something of her again in this photo journal, just not on this day’s post though)!!

Well, I’ve titled this photo as Ugh!!  because that was my immediate thought when I saw this and just knew it had to be the photograph for that particular day, much as I didn’t like it!!

See, I was right!  Ugh!!!  A very large slug!!!  Ugh!!!

I took his photograph because he was much larger than the slugs we normally see in the garden.  He was actually about three inches long but as he slithered along the path he sort of closed up a bit just as I took his pic.

But look at that great long slug trail behind him!!  Ugh!!!  Ugh!!!

I didn’t hang around to see if he made it to the flower bed or not and have no idea if our pet duck Demelza came across him at all.  Ugh!!!  :-(

(Just a little P. S. here – I was just tagging this post and putting him as an insect.  Is he an insect?  Should I call him an animal?  Or what)?

Day 287 – A Moth?

Following on the previous post (Day 286) I took this photo because I thought it was a little more unusual as an insect.

We thought it was a moth, but because of it’s shape which we had not seen before in a moth, it made us wonder what type of insect it was, so another mystery “something” for me to take a pic of!!

It was very difficult taking a photograph to show it clearly.  As I got closer to get a good shot at it the camera blurred more.  I tried it with and without a flash, but this is the best photo I took of it, although the large shadow of it does not help too much when looking at it!!

Still, it is rather interesting.  It later disappeared so we are hoping it wasn’t anything really nasty, poisonous, or just ‘orrible and haven’t seen any like that since, so hopefully it didn’t lay eggs or anything either!!

Day 271 – A Bit Cold For Fluttering

When I took this photograph it was coming up to the end of October, so as in an earlier post, it really was a surprise to see a butterfly on such a really cold day.

As I was inside the house and just spotted him outside at the top of a window, I had to take the photograph in an awkward position to try to get a good view of him.

With the awkward angle I was at to take the photo, I could not really avoid the reflection in the window of some of the window frame etc..  :-)

Day 268 – Just Dangling!

This photo is of something that was doing just that – just dangling!!

I’m not quite sure how he managed it, but there he is, all dangled!

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011/2012

As you can see this chap was just dangling from the ceiling, but I am wondering how he did that as the top part of his legs are just touching the ceiling and his body dangles below.  Is he caught on his own web?

I’m so pleased I spotted him, cos he was another big spider – we normally don’t get them too big, and he could have just dropped onto us from his position.  Euk! Euk! Euk!   I certainly don’t like the look of that one!!!!!

Day 266 – Going For A Spin!

I wanted to take this photograph because it seemed to me to be a little unusual  seeing a butterfly in October!

On this particular day it was also extremely windy which also suprised me that a butterfly would be out flying about in such winds.

This chap landed on our ornamental frog windmill thingy so I took a pic before he flew off.

As this butterfly sat there, the wind made the wheel he was sitting on spin around!!  I took a couple of pics but they were a bit blurred so I had to wait for the wind to stop to take another pic, showing how the wheel had moved and the butterfly was still there!

Suddenly the wind whisked the wheel round and round and round at great speed and the butterfly just hung on!!  As soon as it stopped he flew away, probably feeling very dizzy!!

Day 260 – Busy Chap (or Chapess – I can’t tell)!!

Well here I am again trying to upload more of the many photos I have taken for Project 365 but not been able to post here until now.

I was sitting reading when some movement caught my eye on the day I took this photograph.

I watched the little chap (or it may be a female) as he wandered about and appeared to be very busy.

Here is one of the photos I took, although I don’t think it is that good as I tried to get close but the closer I got the camera blurred.  (I haven’t quite got the hang of how cameras do all they can do yet). ;-)

He was busy making a web over the rail that was on the radiator.  He walked what must have been miles for him and climbed up and dangled down to make the web.  I just wish I could have taken better, closer, sharper photos.  :-)

Day 235 – The Fly!!

I took this photo because I was just pottering about looking at things on my computer when this fly landed on it and strolled about on the screen!   He was happy to stay there for a while with no intention of flying off, so I grabbed the camera and took a pic of him.

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011/2012

It’s more a pic of the computer screen than the fly but if you look closely you will see him near the top.  By the time I took this pic he had been wandering about for quite a while on the screen!

Yes, I know, I was having a potter on my Facebook page at the time!!  (Still, the pic of me when I was much younger is an improvement to the old gal I am now)!!  ;-)

Day 230 – He’s Big!!!

This chap (or chapess) was sitting in our bath!!  I decided to take a photograph of it as it was so very big, much bigger than we normally have.

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011/2012

Because I took the photo so quickly, in case he scuttled off, I didn’t think to add anything that would be a guage to show just how big he was!

Day 221 – A Wonderful Piece Of Work

I’ve shown a similar photo of this type of thing way back in the earlier days of my photo journal, but took this photo several days ago because it looked so good I thought, with raindrops on it.  It is also much bigger than the earlier photo I took and I also think that it really is a wonderful piece of work, the time and trouble that went into making this is amazing!!

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

The day I took this pic was really wet and very wild, the wind was so fierce and sadly by the end of the day this cobweb was in tatters.  I’m not a great fan of spiders, but the one who made this obviously went to a lot of trouble so it seems such a shame that it was demolished hours later.

If you click on the photo it will come up bigger in another window.  I find it amazing the way the rain drops sit on it and also amazing at just how many spans there are coming off each different section of the cobweb.

Day 199 – Still They Come!!!

I wasn’t sure what I was going to take a pic of for today’s post and then it was sort of decided for me!!

As I have mentioned in recent posts, we have been a bit overrun with creepy crawly earwigs – too many wandering about in our house!!!  Euk!

We thought we had at last got rid of them with all the preventative measures and earwig traps and all sorts of things we were doing to get rid of any nests and to make it so they don’t want to come in.

We had a couple of days earwig-free.  Wonderful!

Then today I saw this:

Three earwigs came into the house in a short space of time.  I found the one in the photo just as you see him here.  He was on his back and dying.  Although not happy that any earwigs made their way into the house, I’m a bit happier knowing that the insecticide is obviously working before they can get very far even though it was several days ago that we used it.

Still, three is much better than lots!!!!
