Day 350 – Cornish Heritage

When I saw this as we travelled along in the car I realised that I actually hadn’t taken a photograph of any (or maybe only one or two) of these and so I thought it was about time I added one to this photo journal.

These old engine houses of Tin Mines are dotted about around Cornwall.  Sadly the Tin Mine industry is finished here but these buildings always look so interesting and wherever they are, there was always a lot of activity going on with the mining.

Paul worked in the Tin Mines for over 20 years, as did many of his ancestors.  As someone who loves history and genealogy, seeing these engine houses for me is always of great interest.

(It’s a shame the telegraph wire somewhat cuts across this pic)!!

Day 345 – Between A Rock And A Hard Place

We were out and about on our travels when this caught my eye.

I’ve actually seen this shrub many times but on this particular day it looked more grown and much more green than usual, so it was very striking growing out of the rock where it lives.

Day 338 – Colour On A Dull Day

Hopefully I am now on the last leg of uploading my backlog of daily photographs that I had taken but did not have the chance to add to this photo journal until lately.  I’m really hoping I can get this last lot up today and then go back to posting daily until  my Project 365 comes to an end at the end of this month.

When I took this photograph I wasn’t sure how it would turn out as it was a very dull day, but I must say I am rather pleased with how it looks!!  :-)

I quite like the way the dull colour of the background has blended away to make the red much more prominent.

Day 333 – Who Are You Looking At?

On yet another day when we were out and about on our travels, we had stopped in a lay-by so that Paul could take Pippin to go and do what doggies do outside on grass and I became aware that someone was watching me, so I looked back and decided to take this photograph!!

He’s definitely looking at me as I look at him and thinking “Who Are You Looking At, baaaaaa, baaaaaa, baaaaaa”!   :-)

Day 313 – Rough At Sea?

Ever since I was a child I have always thought that it must be rough at sea whenever I see lots of Seagulls inland, in fields.  I must have been told this sometime a long time ago for me to think that, although I’m not sure that that is the case when Seagulls venture more inland.

I happened to look out of our house and saw all these Seagulls in the playing field opposite us.

There were actually many more Seagulls here than you can see.  Whenever I took a photo of more of them, they moved away behind the hedgerow just as I clicked!!  I took quite a lot of photos trying to show that there were lots of them here, but they moved too quick for me to catch them all!  :-)

Day 299 – Out and About At Last!

For the first time since his operation Paul has been able to drive.  So on his first day back at driving we all went out for a ride and to do some shopping.

As it was a cause for celebration I decided that I really must take a photo of anything while we were at last out and about on our travels!

So, parked up and this is what I took the photo of, a view of what was ahead of us.

Look, the town is getting ready for Christmas!!  Some of my very early photos in Project 365 mentioned the Christmas decorations from the previous Christmas still up in towns two or three months later!

I suppose these aren’t too early as it was November when I took this photo.  Time to start feeling festive!!  :-)

Day 223 – Follow My Leader

I took this photograph as we were driving along in the car.  We could not park anywhere so I just had to click as best I could while I had the chance!

The reason I wanted to take the photo is because it was not something we normally see, so I thought it would be good for this photo journal.

There were about twenty cows in this field, and they were all in a very straight line as they followed each other across the field.  Unfortunately, some of the hedges got in the way every time I tried to take a pic as we were moving along all the time, so I haven’t been able to take a photo showing just how interesting it was to see!!

I’ve got some lovely pics of hedges though, lol.   ;-)

Day 142 – Beautiful English Summer Weather – Not!!!

Today is the day before the longest day.  We are in June and it is this time of year that is part of the high season for holidaymakers and the time when places to stay on holiday are at a higher rate to pay because June, July and August are the better months for the good weather and for holidays.

So, how was it today?

Well, it certainly does not look like a glorious, sunny, hot, beautiful day does it?  It was very very cold, my hands were like ice most of the day.  After going out and about today, we had to put the heating on at home – which is something we never have done in June!!

We had heavy rain, the very big drops kind, lots of wind, thick fog, and cold cold cold!!  I’m really convinced that the seasons are changing.  It might take a number of years yet, but I really think we had better weather in April.

Perhaps as tomorrow is the longest day and then the nights start drawing in, it might be a beautiful day.  Let’s hope so.

Day 125 – Little and Large!

I’ve been a bit busy the last few days, so although I have been taking photographs each day, this is the first chance to post them.

For the first of the pics I am posting today, we were out and about and noticed that a windmill/wind turbine thingy that always looked quite big and was always on it’s own whenever we drove by it, was on this particular day no longer alone – and it was no longer looking quite so big!!

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

As you can see from the photograph, the smaller one was already quite a big thing, when you look at it near the houses but now it has been joined by a much bigger object which completely looms over everything around!!  Hope they won’t be putting too many of those up – I would much rather see the trees than a huge object reaching high up to the sky!!

Day 124 – St. Mawes – Looking Lovely

Today we went over to St. Mawes to visit my Aunt.  It was an absolutely glorious, beautiful sunny day.  I think the summer is at last on its way!!

The view out the window was lovely, all the boats bobbing about on the sea.  It just looked so good I decided to take a photograph of it.

And yes, I did deliberately take the pic with the chimney pot in it because the Seagull was busy looking out at all he surveyed while I was looking out at it all as well and I thought it would be a good point of interest in the photo.  :-)

As the Seagull looked so good I decided to take a closeup pic of him, as long as he stayed there.

Even if I say so myself, I think he looks pretty good in this photo.  I think he knew I was taking his pic so stayed there for a while longer posing.    ;-)
