Day 312 – A Sad Anniversary

This particular day is the sad anniversary of when my dear Dad died.  So we went to the crematorium to place flowers in a vase we have there with his name on and also to look in the Book of Rememberance.

I have taken a photo of the vases where we place flowers before and shown that in this photo journal, so wanted to take a different photo of where we were to record what we did on this day.

They have a walkway to where you can leave floral tributes, especially Christmas wreaths etc., (as this is that time of year) and so I took this photograph.

It’s always kept very nice at this place, always peaceful and quiet.  I was surprised to see the shrub in flower, I think it is a Camellia, as it was in December when I took this photo.

Day 307 – Our Anniversary

I had to mark this particular day with a photograph of our anniversary cards as it is a special day for us.

This was our 26th Anniversary and we spent it quietly as we now have Auntie Lucy staying with us and I don’t think she really wanted to go out for a nice romantic meal and dancing the night away!!  ;-)

Last year I gave Paul two cards, just cos I liked them both and didn’t know which to choose, so bought both.  This year Paul gave me two cards so it looks like it has become and annual thing and will be my turn to give two cards next year!!  :-)

Day 300 – Blocked Drain!

Wow! Wow! Woweeeeeeee!  Day 300!!  I find it so hard to think that I have actually taken a daily photo for 300 days so far.  Amazing!!  :-)   :-)   :-)

300 Days Celebration image designed by me - copyright 2012

When I posted for my 100 days and 200 days I used one of the assignments each time from The Daily Shoot but this time I am going with  something that happened on what was my 300th day of photo-taking.

On this day we were a bit alarmed as our toilet had become blocked and when you flushed it the water almost came over the top!

Paul spent more than two hours unblocking the drain and trying to find out why it was blocked.  Really not a very nice task!!  :-(

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011/2012

Paul was still recovering from his operation to have an artificial knee so all the bending down and walking about he had to do to clear the drains was a little too much and hurt him a great deal.  This photo was taken while he was in the middle of clearing the problem!!

Nevertheless, he fixed it and discovered that there were masses of tissues and baby wipes that had become trapped in a kink in the pipework.

So, it was Auntie Lucy that caused the blocked drain!  She uses a lot of tissues through the day and uses baby wipes to have a sort of “bath” with every day – saves her trying to climb into a bath.  We thought she was throwing them away in her rubbish bin, which we used to empty for her but she wanted to do that herself, so we let her.  Because of that, we did not see that her rubbish bin did not contain the used tissues or baby wipes and now we had a bit of a problem explaining to her not to put these down the toilet, because she was now extremely forgetful sometimes with an almost immediate effect.

Well, at least we are aware of what can happen, so keep a regular looksee in the drains to make sure nothing is building up.

What a way to celebrate 300 days of photos!!!  Still, I’m excited that I have managed to do this Project so far almost to the end.  Only another 65 days to go.  Good job I didn’t start it in a Leap Year, that would have meant an extra photo!!  :-)   :-)   :-)

Day 285 – Rememberance

I took this photograph on November 11th which is our day of Rememberance for all those servicemen who gave their lives in various wars over many years and more recent times.

Whatever views anyone has about war this is just to remember those men and women who were sent away but did not get to return home again to their loved ones.

For as long as I can remember I have always worn my Poppy with pride in rememberance of all those poor souls who never returned.

Day 224 – Ten Years On

The day I took these photographs was 11th September.  Now, because of terrible events ten years ago, it is known worldwide as 9/11.  I won’t go into the details of those events here but felt that it was not a day that I should let pass without something photographic in this journal to mark it.

As it was ten years since that awful tragedy, I was watching the memorial ceremonies in America on TV and so took photos of what I saw on the television.

This first photo is showing the place that is now known as Ground Zero in New York where the main memorial ceremony was held.

I also took a photo of the memorial ceremony held in London in memory of the British people that were killed  in this awful event.

I don’t think the world will ever let this anniversary pass or be forgotten.  I remember exactly where I was and how I came to see it via TV ten years ago.  I will never forget.  I’m pretty sure that we  who live in this world will  always remember and think of those poor people who perished when the terrorists came.

Day 198 – Sad Anniversary: Flowers For Gran

Yesterday was the sad anniversary of the day that my dear Gran left us in 1984.  She was aged 101 years which is a lovely long life compared to most.  Gran was active, well and still a great lady until we lost her.  Sadly her last two weeks were not good as she appeared to have had a stroke.

For yesterday’s photo I decided that as it was an anniversary, albeit a sad one, I would take a pic of the flowers we were taking to the Crematorium for Gran.

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

These are flowers from our garden and consist of Acquiligia (not too sure how to spell that), Mombretia (another one I’m not sure of for spelling) and Lobelia.  I don’t know what the white flowers are but we have a lot in the garden at the moment.

Day 78 – My Blogiversary!!

Today is the first blogiversary for my genealogy blog So That’s Where I Get It From.  I’m very excited to have this special day and quite amazed at how much I have written over the past year about my ancestors!!

Of course, in view of it being a special day today, I just had to take a photograph of my blog.  ;-)

Original photograph taken by me today 17 April 2011 - copyright 2011

The quality of the photo is not great, as it is really a pic of my computer screen showing my blog.

I was a bit silly, because I was going to take the photograph when I had done an “It’s my blogiversary” post, but when I did that, I went on and added a couple more posts and so the “blogiversary” post has moved down the screen and if I took a pic of that where it now is, my blog title wouldn’t show.  But it’s still a pic taken today on my actual blogiversary.  Yaaaaay!  lol.  ;-)

Day 64 – Mum on Mother’s Day

Today is Mother’s Day and so we went to see my dear Mum to help her celebrate this special day.

We had a lovely time and my brother Alan also came to see her.  Mum gave us fondant fancies and lemon meringue pie, mmmmmm.

Mum received flowers from us and Alan and we also bought her a new plant for her garden – she so loves her garden and pottering about in it.

Original photograph taken by me today 3 April 2011 - copyright 2011

This is Mum with some of her flowers and with the new plant for the garden (with lilac colour flowers next to her).  Mum was very pleased with this plant.  She had not seen one like it before and it was a new plant for the garden centre where we bought it too.  The plant is an Australian mint and has very strong minty smelling leaves although the plant is not edible at all.

Day 63 – A Day Early!

The day after I took this photograph was Mother’s Day.  The day before Mother’s Day I was given some flowers to celebrate it so took a photo of them as a record of the day.  I was very good and didn’t open my cards or presents until the proper day.  ;-)

Original photograph taken by me - copyright 2011

As we were planning to go and see my Mum on Mother’s Day and wanted to take photographs there for this Project 365 journal, I thought that I would show my flowers for Mother’s Day even though this was a day early.  :-)

Day 45: Mum and Dad’s Wedding Anniversary

Today is a special day because it is Mum and Dad’s Wedding Anniversary.  Sadly, my dear Dad is no longer with us, but since he died I have always seen Mum on her very special day and give her a Thinking of You card, just so she knows that her special day has not been forgotten.

Original photograph taken by me today 15 March 2011 - copyright 2011

This is the Thinking of You card I gave Mum today and for this photograph I placed it next to one of the photos my Mum has in her living room of her and Dad together.  Their photo was taken a number of years ago on one of their holidays abroad.

Mum was recalling today how on their actual Wedding Day it was snowing!!  Unfortunately there are no photos from their wedding so I can’t share one here.
